Jan 19, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: Health and Fitness

Anti-Aging Action.

It’s the latest revolution in skincare. Virtually every skincare line is factoring in the use of anti-oxidants like Vitamin C Esther and Vitamin E products to counter-act the wrinkling and dry skin that comes with age. But the good news is the best way to harvest the anti-aging benefits of these anti-oxidants is in your diet.

Look out for foods like melons, cantaloupes, strawberries, spinach, apples and almonds to snack on. This is a case of beauty really coming from the inside. Always try and pick fruits and veggies that are bright in color for great anti-oxidant effects.

Dark, leafy green vegetables and berries are amazing. Try and eat a handful every day. Berries and nuts are an almost perfect combination and good for you in multiple ways.

And please don’t forget that Omega 3’s are good for you as well. Recent studies have shown that omega 3 fatty acids such as those found in salmon, mackerel, tuna, sardines and other fish as well as in walnuts and other sources are VERY beneficial for the skin. You can take omega 3’s internally in capsule form as well in the form of fish or cod liver oil. Don’t wrinkle your nose, modern technology renders the oil virtually tasteless or you can buy it in lemon flavor for instance. Be sure you get a good quality fish oil with NO MERCURY.

Don’t despair on the topical applications either. Find a compounding pharmacy near you and ask them to make up a face cream that is fortified with vitamin C, Vitamin E and Vitamin A.

Apply at least twice daily, morning and bedtime. Works just as well for men as for women.

Fitness - Inside the Body of a Non-Exerciser

Dec 14, 2007 Author: admin | Filed under: Health and Fitness

If you don’t exercise, this is what happens to your insides. Since your body is in a state of rest, the energy produced by breathing is primarily directed to your internal organs-one of which is the digestive system. In this state, 80 percent of the oxygen-rich blood is flowing to these organs. That leaves only 20 per cent for your skeletal muscles-which are undemanding because they are not being exercised. Your digestive system signals its hunger pangs to your appestat - the brain centre that controls the appetite. This is the time you feel hungry. And as long as you do not exercise, you continue to feel hungry at regular intervals.

When you exercise…

Now, see what happens when you exercise. There is a shift. The energy produced now shifts away from your internal organs - including the digestive system. If you are working out at your optimum aerobic level, 80 per cent of your blood supply flows to the skeletal muscles. They need that oxygen-rich blood to saturate themselves to go about their business of burning fat for more energy. As the blood flow shifts to these muscle groups to provide them with the required energy, it is the digestive system that is passive. Since it is in an inactive state, it does not demand energy. It does not signal to your appestat. Receiving no signals, your appestat remains silent. So, you do not feel hungry.

Fitness Right - Your Wrong Thinking

Oct 24, 2007 Author: admin | Filed under: Health and Fitness

Predictably, many people - particularly overweight - have an argument against exercising. Many people claim that “Exercising increases the appetite.” “So, if I exercise I shall feel more hungry, eat more and put on more weight. Therefore it is wiser not to exercise!” Hallelujah! Here you have a statement clothed in logic, presented with such utter confidence and reaffirmed so constantly that you could begin to believe in it yourself!

Let us present you with a simple exercise in logic.

The sea is blue.

My tie is blue.

The sea and my tie are the same things.

Sounds ridiculous? It is. We have deliberately made it so. Such ‘logical’ premises are the kind of wrong thinking that can creep into your mental dynamics and inhibit you. Such nonsense is generally spouted by people who are on the defensive because they know they need to exercise but are unwilling to do so.

The fact is that obesity - not exercising - is the cause of more obesity.

When you gain fat-weight, you add on more useless body tissue that has to be serviced. It puts a strain on your heart, it is like putting the engine of a scooter into the body of a truck and expecting it to run! When you continue to overeat, your heart starts trying to work harder to sustain that truck of a body. Thus, it gets more strained and its muscles weaken.

Stomach Flu Symptoms

Sep 17, 2007 Author: admin | Filed under: Health and Fitness

A great number of people today are becoming more aware of the importance of being healthy. However despite taking food supplements, getting the right amount of exercise, and having a healthy diet, there are still times when you catch flu and colds.

The viruses causing flu can be treated using antibiotics but there are also instances when the antibiotics don’t work effectively. If you want to use alternative methods to lessen the flu symptoms like upset stomachs, read on.

What is flu? It is also called influenza and is a contagious infection of your respiratory tract. It can be transmitted through the air you breathe when someone with influenza sneezes or coughs out. The symptoms are similar to that of colds including dry cough, sore throat, aching joints and muscles, fatigue, infrequent nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, and upset stomachs.

If you’re infected with the influenza virus, the symptoms will not appear immediately. It would take about 1-2 days of incubation until the symptoms appear. After about three days, some of the symptoms may subside but it will totally disappear within ten days. Fatigue and coughing may continue for another two weeks or so.

If you have flu, you will not feel like eating anything because you will find food tasteless. If you want to address your upset stomach caused by the flu, you can try the following:

• Chicken Soup - for many years now, chicken soup has been used to ease flu symptoms. The soup contains garlic that can boost your immune system. It may even reduce the pain that you feel. When preparing the chicken stock, don’t forget to add leeks or onion, celery, and of course, the garlic.

• Vitamin C - make sure that you get plenty of vitamin C. You can eat fruits high in vitamin C or you can take vitamin C supplements.

• Echinacea - according to studies, Echinacea can reduce the symptoms of flu especially if you take it as the flu begins

• Andrographis - if you don’t want to experience an upset stomach, make sure that you take Andrographis to help stimulate your immune system and reduce fever.

• Elderberries - way back during Hippocrates’ time, elderberry has been used to suppress influenza growth. It is a time tested alternative.

The Heart and Blood Network

Jun 6, 2007 Author: admin | Filed under: Health and Fitness

There is no organ more vital to the survival of a human life than the heart. The heart pumps blood through the arteries to all the various points of our body, carrying oxygen and nutrients to keep our body ticking. Without it, we’d simply be dead. It really is that clear-cut. But underneath this obvious function is a remarkable organ which is tremendously versatile and complex. In this article we’ll look at the whole process of respiration and distribution of oxygen around the body.

The human body functions in constant cycles. Blood is passed through the veins, arteries and capillaries by the heart, which is at the center of the whole process. Blood enters the heart from the lungs and is forced through the body until it is filtered back to the heart which then pumps the blood to the lungs to pick up more oxygen. This oxygen is the result of breathing, and allows bodily cells to function correctly. These cells emit carbon dioxide as a by-product, which we then exhale. From this perspective, the blood could easily be likened to a transport network - the infrastructure supporting the complex operation of the human body.
